An Impromptu Meal

It was almost seven in the evening and I hadn't the slightest idea what we'd have for dinner; I forgot to bring a package of meat out of the freezer! So, poor me had to think... otherwise it would either be pizza or KFC night again. Been eating too much chicken lately, soon we'll grow wings and fly. Yay!

I had lots of leftover food in the fridge but they've been reheated at least twice already. I also had slices of ham, hotdogs, frozen shrimps, eggs and some leftover rice that Séb cooked last night. I needed to make use of what I have in the fridge, recycle them into a great dish. I had to make a dinner out of these ingredients, I needed to improvise... So what dish can one obviously think of? Fried rice, what else? A-ha!

Voilà! It is just a variation of the Chinese-style one, of course, but when I make something, I make it real good... ( c'mon, try me... ) I kid! I kid! ;-)

And oh, the letfover Duck Aux Olives (see? I've told you, we're so much into poultryism these days, hehe)... I discarded the sauce and fried them legs and thighs. Soo crispy and more tasty, it went well with my throw-everything-into-the-pan fried rice.

My New Cooktop

Sébastien had to beg me before he had me agreed on having our stovetop changed: he wanted to switch to induction cooktop.

We used to have a combination of gas and electric burners that he began to abhor because of the gas bottle that used to sit outside (on the terrace, for security reasons) "a very ugly site", he said; and then the difficulties of keeping the electric cooktop clean, the time it takes to bring water to a boil, the time it takes to cool down, etc. I know all of this, of course, but considering the price of an induction cooker, its very "fragile" look and the need for its special cookwares, I wasn't really keen on having one. But then he insisted that I should go with him to one of those appliance stores in Compiègne to have a good look on these things; from there I could decide If I really want it or not. I don't know if it was him or the salesperson that really convinced me that I found myself fascinated ending up at the queue paying for it. Gawd, 'twas expensive! We paid more or less 1300€ - had to get induction cookwares too and an adapter for I still intend to use nonmagnetic cookwares I have at home.

Yesterday, as I wanted to try my cocotte en fonte on it, I made Ratatouille. And as it is a dish that needs to be cooked gently, my new cooktop just worked real fine, it held a simmer perfectly.

I have to accept, I'm soo loving it! It offers control as precise as any gas burner and since the cooking surface doesn't heat up - okay maybe warm because of the heat conducted by my casseroles, spills and overflows don't stick, so it's so easy to clean - just with the use of a sponge and some hot water, le tour est joué!.

This Old Man

I don't know what came over me and I recorded this! My Gawd, as far as I remember, yeah -- as per the weatherman, we'd be having a sunny Sunday, now clouds are turning gray... lol.

Oh, that's okay, my darling Cléms is quite amused, haha!

Sean Kingston's Beautiful Girls

is one of my kids' favorite songs at the moment.

Yeah, the song's sweet and catchy but once again, another "Akon-y" singer recycling a classic song. It heavily samples Ben E. King's classic "Stand By Me" -- with a 17 year-old hip singer bringing fresh beats, no wonder it tops the list of my kids' favorite songs.

I'm just beginning to hate his repetitive "suicidal, suicidal"...
